The Singing Architect

Timothy Newton is an architect and landscape designer who is also a Jazz vocalist.
Influenced by the likes of Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Jon Hendricks, Esperanza Spalding and instrumentalists of all sorts, Timothy’s performance preference is the reinterpretation of the well known jazz standards with a particular love for vocal improvisation and scat. This allows him to reflect the myriad of emotions that the music stirs within him. “…I want to be one of the instruments in the band …” He is developing his style towards what he likes to think of as a jazz fusion as he takes to heart the advice of one of his mentors – “… improvise your emotions.” – Bobby McFerrin.

Timothy has appeared with some of the leading local jazz musicians – Ronald Aqui, Clive ‘Zanda’ Alexander, Jeffrey Pattasingh, Sean Thomas, Ralph Davies and many others, “… Music takes me to where I want to be, and if I can take others with me, that’s an added bonus …”

He will be featured at Brunchtime Jazz on Sunday 7th July 2019 at the Kaiso Blues Cafe, 1D Wrightson Road, in Port of Spain, Trinidad, with Wayne Guerra on keyboard, Russell Durity on Bass and Winston Matthew on drums.
